Book review: And the mountains echoed

This book definitely does not come anywhere near the “The Kite Runner”. Apparently, Hosseini tried a different style while still keeping most of his usual elements. There were too many characters and at least for me it was hard to keep track of everyone. Throughout the book, I constantly felt lost!

Some story-lines were really good, especially the first half – the story of Abdullah and Pari and the parallel tale of Maidan-Sabz. Towards the middle of the book, the sub-plot involving the Iqbal’s son was also pretty interesting. But then, the whole point of plots and sub-plots that added nothing to the main plot made it very confusing. Plus, the book had too many useless details about children and families that don’t feature anywhere else in the book, a diversion maybe?

Nevertheless, all those things only made it a hard-read for the wrong reasons. The ending too was very predictable, conventional and satisfying.
